I know this was mentioned already - and that the tunnel light was improved from previous years. But I think the lighting still needs work. I remembered to remove my glasses going into the tunnel and while the first few hundred feet were OK...as you got to the middle there were no lights. At the time I was in a break of three (about to be caught by the pack) and when I looked to my left at another rider I got a little vertigo almost swerved into the other rider. I had to remember to look ahead to get my bearings.
Perhaps something to "uplight" the walls on both sides of the tunnel would help. It would be good to see the walls and road while you're in the tunnel. It seemed like many of the racers I've talked to had similar experiences. With the proper lighting the Nada Tunnel could be a defining feature of the event rather than the "scary" part of the race. |
