Cliff & Sherry,
Thanks for putting on the race! It's a difficult challenge and huge workload to put on a quality high level event.
It's also an unforgiving task. If things go well you receive a few thank you's and if there are problems you catch it from many which ruin your experience.
It's nice to see a small community step up and volunteer to bring this type of event in and boost their economy.
Some suggestions for areas of improvement:
- lights in the tunnel which you heard all about but is a dangerous situation for racers. Darkness to wet conditions to jagged walls are just a recipy for disaster.
- signage at all turns and the bigger the better. Placed well before the turn and sometimes even two especially where roads fork. Remember racers are usually physically maxed which makes mental processing more difficult. Accompany that with high speeds such a Time Trials and packs and "Dan Henry's" are not sufficient
- reduce your number of routes. The longer your routes the more difficult to manage and communicate. Circuit races can be easier and more spectator friendly.
- Get yourself a "Technical Director" to assist. Someone with experience in racing and race events who can assist in many areas from course to training volunteers.
- change the crit course!! Way too many turns especially tight turns which makes it too dangerous. It's one thing to be challenged but no one wants to get hurt when racing. Look for a course in town that encompasses roads with 3-6 turns that can be closed down and flows well.
Thanks again and good luck, Darrell Edwards
