Hi all,
New to the forum, long time mtb'er in the Ville. Quick question. Why was the tree that formed the best technical move on Wildy cut down flush with the ground? This is the move by the creek where you cant your cranks between a rock on the left and what was formerly a tree on the right, shortly before a few other tech. moves. I was dismayed to find it gone yesterday. It was the first time I'd been out to Wildy since the storm. Please tell me the tree suffered damage during the storm and this is why it was cut. If someone cut it because they thought the move was too tight then that is some WEAK SAUCE!
SYOTT, -DJ

| Not sure what Weak Sauce is, but I agree, hopefully it was a casualty of the storm and not yet another example of some folks (not KYMBA) dumbing down the trail. |

| The tree in question was a victim of the storm, it had to be cut down. On another note, some fucking asshole or assholes keeps opening up the rouge trail that I have spent hours closing. This section is being closed due to # 1 the trail is a mud fest, the only time its not is during a long dry spell, witch we are in. #2 It leads to the other none sustainable trail at the beginning of the WLT. Someone or some people are spending just as many hours to open what I worked so hard to close. With all that work someone is doing you would think someone else would have seen who is doing this. I am not accusing anyone on this fine forum. I just want everyone to spread the word and keep an eye out for this dumb shit or shits. Thanks |

Dang - there's where I'd catch a 3 second breather by going real slow.
As for the section that needs to kept closed - maybe it's time for some punji sticks. ;-P bwahahahahah

thanks for clearing that up (literally) Gnomenator. I figured that was the case. I would rank this sauce as mild to weak instead of outright weak. Maybe a metal pole with razor sharp barbs should be erected in place of the fallen tree to keep things interesting. Who wants to help me out here?

| If my memory is correct, in that area, didn't it use to go up and down with hand rails for hikers? I'm guessing that was poor trail layout for bikes (sustainability-wise). |

Trail Gnome is not Bob B, but kudos to you both for the work. Could we put a big boulder where that tree was? Pat C: we gotta ride sometime brutha? Another rhode (gasp!) ride perhaps? |

Like I posted before - I think one of those green metal poles with a "TRAIL CLOSED" sign on it like we had at Cherokee during the aftermath of our previous administration should be posted at each end of the rogue trail so there is no mistake about the status of the section. Anyone on that trail would clearly be breaking the park rules.
Any chance the guy who built the trail is opening it back up??

I didn't notice if it was there today or not.

The sign was gone earlier this week but the trail was re-opened sometime between Wed and Fri. |

Tom: Ask Dulin to give you some pointers on "vertical deadfall" it's a great way to close down a trail, I'm sure there's info in the IMBA Books. Pat B: I'm down for a ride whenever, I'm so out of shape I definitely don't want to try climbing Brooks hill again, that easy 20 mile ride turned into a 40 mile punish fest in a hurry didn't it ha ha ha. Good times. |

Weak sauce indeed. I dismounted in anticipation of that section, but I didn't need to today. The linkisation of the WLT has been complete. I can do the entire loop without dabbing or dismounting. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. The trail gnome also took my little friend the sappling away from the golf course reroute, right where you go to the right of a big tree and usually have to turn sharply to the left. I'll never turn sharply to the Left so I almost always smack right into the sappling. But it's gone. I'll miss it. Not. |

first of all stop using weak sauce, what are you chef ramey, what a lame expression, i know we are a food town, but dude... don't... please...anyway, to tom thanks bro, for all the work, and for newbies that don't know tom and his legacy, show props, he is the one that made the wtl what it is, and we have abused his creation, so to all of you who decided to move tom's redirections, karma happens. I have done much work out there on many trails and picked up garbage, and generally sacrificed my ride time to do good deeds, and I am fed up with riders who simply zoom by and don't offer a hand, or ride with out working on the trails. until you have done the work, and understand the comentment it take by alot of people, show some respect and don't move brush from closed trails. A lot of thought goes into closing a trail before it happens, and just because you like some section is no reason to open a trail back up. By the way I love the fact that that bastard of a tree is gone, yes it made it tech, but I lost many a shoe buckle on that rock, so a little more room is find, hell I wanted to drill some holes and fracture a big chunk off that rock, but nothing is permanate, and that tree went bye, bye. Tom how about setting up a regular trail day on the wtl a couple times a month til it gets straighted out, then have a kegger!
