It's also funny to me that Congress waits until gas hits $3.60 a Gallon before they reaslize the sky is falling. I suppose it made them look at the pump after they swiped there Government credit card.
Don't even get me started on Government take home cars either. Thats BULLSHIT too. |

| They're not out of touch...they grilled the oil execs for the umpteenth time, what more do you want? Do you actually expect them to fix this? You're out of touch... |

Don't you ever get tired of bitching about oil, congress, and illegal immigrants? I thought this was a Mountain Bike forum? Maybe a bike ride would do you good. Get out and stop complaining about it all. I'd propose we remove the Off Topic forum completely. If you want to build camaraderie amongst Mountain Bikers in Kentucky, then talk about bikes, the one thing we all have in common. -Sumner |

It took a lot of OIL to make your keyboard bro...Bikes also require OIL to keep them running smoothly...The off topic forum is the most read/most posted in of all...If this forum is closed, KyMBA will die...Post a bike comment if you like...I have now used the word BIKE 3 times in this post...

I'm not disputing the fact that everything takes oil, and that it's expensive. I'm just saying this is a Mountain Bike forum. The reason the off topic forum is the most read is because most of the other members have gotten tired of coming to a BIKE site just to listen to people talk about oil, congress, and illegal immigrants. I post bike questions/comments when I have them, but they usually get taken in a different direction. I ride my bike to get away from daily stresses such as cost of living (oil), our government, politics, and work. The last thing I want is to come to a forum to check out bike stuff and then have to deal with the topics I use my bike to get away from. |

| Isn't bitching about oil, bike promotion? MEK can't talk about mountain bikes anyway because he is afraid of them. |

Are you reading it out loud? Perhaps that is the problem. Try reading it to yourself and that should fix it. Or perhaps, and this is a long shot ......... Don't read it. ;) |

It seems odd to me to get on the section of the forum that is labeled "off topic" and then complain that we aren't talking about bikes here. I'm gonna have to agree with MEK on this one...you aren't forced to read the off topic forums, so if you don't want to....skip it! I usually don't read any of the race threads either. And furthermore, I think we ARE building cameraderie because we're getting to know each other. There's not been a pot on here that has made me think that I would avoid someone if I were to see them on the trail. I would in fact be MORE likely to ride with them because I know who they are. (actually way, way behind them) Yes I've said it, I'll vote for you even if you voted for Hillary. But not Ralph Nader. |

| if you just use the active threads column on the left of the screen, like me, you don't necessarily purposefully look at "off topic" threads. Although, the title of the thread and the author is usually a good indication of the substance that the thread will contain. |

Gas is expensive, but it's really not as bad as it could be (Gas Chart). I think we Americans became too comfortable when the prices were low. What is a shame is that with our traditionally low gas prices we haven't really been quick to embrace new technology or new ideas about transportation. Some ideas that may have been shrugged off in years past look a lot better now that we can no longer afford to drive half-way around the world in a Ford Excursion. I don't really like high gas prices, but in a way I don't mind them because it exposes just a bit of the absurdity we have come to think of as "normal" and may lead to a necessary shift in behavior. |

For those few left that remember, this is what kept people coming back for more. I'm all about "Remember the YETI", "Remember Anthony's old avatar", We certainly need to bring back TWL's Cat Cookbook. That's what made it fun on the trails when we rode. It kept the "Club" or to stay politically correct "Association" tight. Everyone joked with everyone else. For the love of God! I still remember Paul Rose' famous line "Nothing spells bonfire like a fresh pallet" That was some funny shit. I think the club has succumbed to "The Man" we have gone way overboard on the "Politically correct .... Shhhhhhh Metro Parks is watching deal" At this point I could really give a shit less............
BTW Tommy you spelled Camaraderie wrong. |

But people constantly complaining about having to press 1 to continue in english, oil prices, and congress is not funny.
I'm down for messin' with people, calling them out, and making fun of people's riding skills (including mine). I'd ride with any of you guys regardless of your political views. But I wouldn't go on a ride to listen to people complain, which is what's going on with this forum. (Yes, the irony is that I'm complaining about it. You don't have to point it out.)
So can someone please change Anthony's avitar for old time sake?

1. Oil companies are PUBLIC. Means you and me own then in the form of our mutual funds. They are not separate industries owned by the executives of these companies. 2. Their profits are demanded by Wall Street, they act to preserve their own jobs...just like the rest of us. 3. Oil costs are being driven up by increased global demand, not some malicious attempt to bend over the American gas purchaser. 4. Government can't do much about increased global demand. 5. Our economy is a free market economy. When government gets involved we always end up paying more anyway. 6. Look at the new investment in alternative energy. GM is testing (round the clock right now) a lithium battery powered car (the Volt) that will get 50 miles to a single charge...at about 80 cents per charge. That's a great start for most commuters. 7. Long term this is the exact wake up call our SUV/Minivan/Dodge Magnum driving culture has needed. 8. We need to look in the mirror/each of us, and ask what we can do to foster this new attitude of conservation and development.

I completely agree with this statement, I hope everyone takes a few moments to actually digest it before screaming that gas should be $1.40 a gallon. Generally there is no reason for anyone other than a general contractor, plumber etc to drive an F250, definitely not as a daily driver to take the kids to soccer practice. Also, if you live in Lexington or Etown and work in Louisville then MOVE TO LOUISVILLE, it is a waste of resources and you have no one to blame but yourself. |
