| I'm not set on Kelty. It's about all i've seen that is of any quality around here. Everything else is coleman or field and stream. I want durability. I'm open for suggestions. |

when it comes to good cheap tents, I have one word....!EUREKA! I will never ever ever buy a tent that the rain fly doesnt surround it like a cocoon. also, take a handgun.

I don't know what price range or size you're looking for, but I'll put my recommendation on Sierra Designs' Clip Flashlight. I've had mine since 1989 and it has housed me well from Dead Tours to trekking on the Sheltowee Trace. I bought it for $150.00 back then and they are still around that price range.
I'll echo RoeBare's suggestion to check out Campmor. Good stuff and great deals. |

| I have a northface rock22 that I think is every bit as good as a kelty, I was told by a trusted source that kelty's poles are the weakness but I never noticed. I think sierra designs are supposed to be better than most but they were also a little more pricey, that's why I got the north face. Are you wanting to camp in late fall and early spring or just during the warmer months? |

is that one of those nice ones that rolls up into little of nothing? Will you take an old xt front deraileur for it? :)

| I'm looking at camping in spring, summer, and early fall. I need a larger tent. I'm looking at models that will fit five or more people. I like space. Lots of it. I'll most likely rarely ever use it for back country camping, so portability is not a big issue. |

| Chris - i do not know what sale you went to last. if you went to our one at the end of march, yes, this sale will have more and different stuff b/c the frankfort ave store will be involved this time. even if the last one you went to was last may this one will still have different stuff. |

Hoping to get a good deal on 40 degree sleeping bag, and a climbing helmet would be nice. |

| My vote for Eureka. I've had an Apex 2 for 5 years and it's still in great shape. Used between 5-10 times/year. Quick and easy set-up and break down and wraps up to the size of a large, rolled up beach towl inside it's carrying bag. It is a two person tent but as some of yous guys know, I'm a two person sized guy. Still plenty of room for all my bike gear, cooler, duffle bag and my teddy bear. :P MSRP is $94. Got mine for $70 on vtarmynavy site. |

I've got a Sierra Designs Lightning that I am quite fond of, though I've only used it a couple times.....two person tents are, I think, sized about right for one person and their gear. Most bike tourists use two person tents.
If I was buying something now though, I think I would definitely grab a Hennessy Hammock...those look sweet.
For a four man tent, I've got a Kelty that works out wonderfully. Just barely big enough for a queen-sized air mattress. And no, I don't sleep on Freddy Mercury.

chris- we had tons of sleeping bags at that march sale. A lot of Mountain Hardwear and North Face. whatever was left will be in this sale next weekend. There won't be any climbing helmets, nor will there be and climbing gear. There will be climbing shoes.

For what you're looking for, I think Eureka would work fine. I got a new campmor catalogue yesterday, and it has several models of Eurekas on sale. Should you be through the tourist trap that is Pidgeon Forge/Gatlinburg this summer the Coleman Outlet (behind Smoky Mountain Knifeworks) has great deals on Coleman and Eurkea tents. Best of all, they usually have several models set up to view.
I can't recommend one brand of tent per se (well, maybe Moss, and they're out of business!), but I'm a big fan of "frog" type tents. I'm currently using a north face tadpole. I'm thinking that Eureka has recently introduced a "frog" style 2-3 person tent, but that won't be big enough for what you need. Good luck. |
