It's my understanding that a small group of twisted individuals are running boats down here tomorrow am. (I think I can get this right) The put in will be at the Hwy 89N bridge, which is about 8 miles from Mckee, at 10:00a.m.. This is a deep creek (to 10' in some sections) with the possibility of some mild strainers. Moderate flow. Probably class 2. Some of the most pristine area left in the state. Runs through both federal (DBNF) and private tracts (abandoned farms from the early 1900's). I think I remember this being a 10-12 mile trip to the take out at Station Camp (just over the Estill County line). Will be at beer drinking pace all day I'm guessing.
This will be mostly a canoe crowd, with maybe one or two kayaks. (I usually have to run sweep and pick up their junk out of the creek repeatedly). I'm only semi enthused, but my 8 year old wants to go. In his own boat. I'm even less excited about the thought of towing a kayak behind mine for 6-8 miles. Such is life. It is a nice trip.
Ya'll now have about 4 hours less notice than I had. Anybody that wants to lash the boat up and roll down here tomorrow am will definately be welcome. If you're that whacked, give me a call on my cell 606 438 7634. We could meet at Mckee at around 9:00.
