Thanks for all your hard work on this site Steve. I really appreciate it.
Rode Fishermans park yesterday (There is my cycling relation)
As a self appointed advocate for the "Cyber Insane" (BTW I'm this way in the real world too) I have to ask
If the site topic is about cycling would that make "Off Topic" about something other than cycling?
I say KEEP IT FUN!
If a member or guest finds a post offensive/perverted/politically wrong or just stupid then why would they keep clicking it?
Can you hide the "Off Topic" so members only can see it? You know ... Keep the girl scouts out of it?

| can you add an ignore user feature webguy? I've seen it on other boards and once you click it you never have to see another post by whichever users you choose to ignore |

"Harden the [insert] UP!"
Here is a quick and easy ignore feature I found:
1. Your mouse controls the pointer on your PC.
2. If you want to ignore a certain post/link don't move the pointer to it and click.
Seems to work pretty good. We need to keep practicing though. |

| sounds like you took offense Marvin. I was talking about ignoring the troll(s), not you. With the ignore you can still read threads, with everyone's response except for the trolls. |

As much as I hate to agree with MEK on anything, I don't understand the harm in having political/social/religious or whatever posts on here as long as things are being kept polite (as could be expected). I would also hope that the membership (being a member driven organization) would drive a decision such as banning certain topics, not a single individual. |

Is it me or does this happen like twice a year on this message board? Everything going smooth.......... then BAM! Global warming, vegetarianism, abortion, gun control or politics turn some into rabid pit bulls. Ready to bite the neck and clamp down like a car crusher. On a serious note. 1 apple can soil the whole bushel. All that needs to be done is pick around the bad apple. We all know when a poster is just trying to start something. The poster don't have nothing else to do to fill their time(kind of sad) I ignore them and go on. Cause I know I'm WAY to smart to get sucked into a meaningless argument. When you give somebody what they want it makes them happy. I don't hand happiness out. I BRING PAIN! HA HA! I KIED! Don't go for the bait.

I thought my initial post was extremely well thought out and informative. Your right Creep. It happens every 8 - 9 mos. Unfortunatly from my understanding we (True KyMBA Members if there is such a thing anymore) have lost our dedicated site. We are sort of piggy backing on "Bikeclicks". Steve aka Webguy has done a Great job of accomidating the "Cyber Insanity" of KyMBA. He agrees that Off Topic should be exactly what I mentioned in the topic of this post (Just as in the past however, he gets fed up when someone goes WAY over the top and doesn't know when to stop. (That was his PM to me) We have always been this way (At least the last 5-6 years) I find that Mntbkrs take things much less serious than other groups. Maybe I'm wrong and I really don't care. On a lighter note I am convinced now that Nancy Pelosi is the Anti-Christ. |

I would also hope that the membership (being a member driven organization) would drive a decision such as banning certain topics, not a single individual. I agree. In fact, there is nothing wrong with political (or other off topic threads) as long as they meet the policies of the site.
My original reaction to some of the most recent trolling posts was "no politics" but after a good night's sleep I revised my "rules" posts to just be about good behaivoir and not trolling. I communicated that change to MEK based on this post, and updated my "rules" post to reflect the same.
As far as banning members. You have to really try to get banned around here. We provide a number of warnings and opportunities to correct things before it comes to that. To date, we have only banned one account (which was a spam account from West Africa). |

A note on trolling: Here is what I look for to identify trolls:
1. No posts other than inflamitory posts, ususally off topic 2. Extreme content designed to hook other users into responding 3. More than one account on the site, usually used to flame the fires or offer other extreme views (either agreeing with or opposing the original post) 4. No history of on-topic posts on the site 5. No established members actually "know" or have ever met this member.
There are some more super secret things we look for too from a technology perspective as well but these are usually enough to check into a member's posts. |
