I killed myself Saturday, then left my boat on the truck when I came in. Loaded up another boat, and went to Laurel yesterday. Me and Ben paddled about an hour. Rockastle; (1) Put in at the bridge on 25, (2) Put in at the bridge on old 80 (below DBMX) (3) Take out at Bee Rock. Depending on what the water level looks like, you might want to take out at the narrows. Or just run it. (probably a couple of miles above Bee Rock) There used to be a guy that rented canoes at the old 80 bridge, I don't know if he is still open or not. One time we were going to take out there (the guy had fixed a nice take out), but he was going to charge us to take out on him!!!! So went nearly killed ourselves dragging our boats up by the bridge itself. Anyway, let me know when ya'll head out again, and Ben and I will tag along. Some hikers got lost at Cumberland Falls last night, and the news reports showed alot of water going over the falls. About double the normal flow for this time of year. It would've been a great weekend to run from Williamsburg to the Falls. (About 15 miles.) |

Hey PR, I bought that Old Town Rush. I like it real well. I have made a couple of trips below the falls down to Nose Dock but the water was only about 500CFS. It was cranking over 2000 yesterday. I would like to make that Rockcastle run with you sometime or the falls if the water level is below 1000 CFS. I’ve got a lot to learn. My skill level is zero right now but I really enjoy paddling. I am taking a class August 22, 23, and 24. Is there any good runs close by that are class II and below that have enough water to run this time of year? On a different note are you going up to Waverly Sunday? I missed you up in Cherokee. I need some Southeastern KY teammates. |

Where's the class?? Nantahala? Can I still get in?? When you go back to run below the falls, give me a holler and I'll tag along. Are you taking your family to Waverly??? I'm doubtful if I can go, but I'll ask the boss. We could run the Rockastle, or the upper Cumberland. It would've been fine this weekend. If the water level does'nt look to suit ya to run below the falls, we can run the upper part. (One truck at the put in, and one at the Falls.) I'm ready to ride, paddle, run, or camp. Let me know when ya head out! |

| Sheltowee Trace Outfitters is giving a class for six students only and unless they get a cancelation I got the last spot. I am not sure how good this class will be but I thought I would try it. I need all the instruction I can get. I am taking the wife up to waverly but the kids are going to stay with the Grandparents on this one. I am going to be busy the remainder of the weekends in August with bike races and kayak class but let's try to get on the water sometime in September for sure. When you get a chance take a look at the 12 Hours of the Canal Loop Bike race that Wood-N-Wave is putting on at LBL September, 13th. I am thinking about running that and then Otter Creek 09/21/2008. That should finish up the bike racing and leave more time for paddling. |

I might call Jerry Whats His Name at Sheltowee (Papa Smurf) and see what that is. He might let me tag along if I did'nt get in the way too much. Do you need a whitewater rig for this class?? Does your boat run a spray skirt?? Is Sheltowee furnishing the boats? If so, they might not mind me bringing my own. Here's what I'm looking at (semi for sure!): 8/25-8/29 -Class at Frankfort. 9/6-Tsali Challenge. 9/28-Bike Butler. 10/25-Haw Ridge 11/1-The Fig. I'd really like to get up a 4man team for Haw Ridge. I posted for 40plus teamates a few weeks back, and only got one reply. If he wants to come, I'll be racing with Barry L for sure. (I'd like to get the mountain legend-C Coffey, but that's impossible!) I'd probably be up for any bike racing or boating that would fit around this. I'd really like to do a couple of adv races this fall somewhere. I'll probably stagger through the 5k at the Chicken Festival too, and maybe one down here on 8/30. I'm really thinking about running the east tn mtb series next year. It's way too far for me to drive for the Ky series. I bet I've been by DBMX a dozen times, and I've never seen Hebel out there. Wish I could convince him to have a Ky series race down here next year. |

| Sheltowee is furnishing everything but I think I will take my own PFD and Helmet. I got a neoprene skirt with my Rush and it works good. The rush was the closest thing to a whitewater kayak that I could find in a recreation model. I wanted to get a rec model just because of the long paddle that you have down to Nose after you hit the slow water. Haw Ridge sounds interesting; I might take a look at that myself. Unfortunately I'm in that 40 and over class now. I might consider East TN as well. I would love to see a race at BSF again. |

Want to race 4man at Haw Ridge? It would be a long drive for Barry, but he might be interested. It's my favorite mtb 12hr. John at CaverunBikeshop has a new RPM. I did'nt even know if they still made RPMs, but it's a great whitewater rig. If I could convince myself that I would start paddling much whitewater (again), I'd probably try to get the boat. |

| I'll let you know on the Haw Ridge 12HR. It sounds fun. I think I am going to cancel on the guys for the 12HR at LBL (Canal Loop). It's going to be a little too expensive for me because it would take two night's hotel or camping and the entry fee is $300 dollars for a four man team. This doesn't even take into account the gas out there and back. Get that whitewater rig because I am going to need a partner to run below the falls and South Fork with me. The shop out at Elkhorn has a JACKSON that I would like to upgrade to if I ever get the extra coin available. You missed a great race at Waverly today. The guys at Mountain Bike Depot did a great job. The electronic scoring was cool and the results were super quick. You knew exactly where you finished and your lap times as soon as the race was over. |

It's 320 miles from my house to LBL. I wanted to go to Waverly, but could'nt get it in. Next year we need to carpool to races, or take turn about on driving. Loretta was'nt really enthused when I told her I might paddle alittle whitewater again. It can't be worse than me adv racing. I wonder if John at Cave Run would trade me that RPM for a Litespeed hardtail? |

| That sounds good. We might take a hard look at the Tennessee series as well. That might be closer for us both. Tell Loretta that we won't be running upper Gauley or anywhere to extreme. We will run Cumberland, Rockcastle and maybe Big South Fork and only then at a safe CFS. |

Once (upon a time) me and two other BWA guys ran below the falls in January. They were coming down from Lexington, and I got to the park before them. It was big water, and cold, and about 6" of snow on the ground. I get all my boat clothes on and carry my boat to the top of the first set of steps going down below the falls. I'm sitting on my boat and pfd waiting when several tourists walk up. They ask me if I'm going boating...... And I was so stunned that I could'nt even come up with a smartass reply. Maybe I just liked to sit on my kayak in the snow... Later that a.m. I took a swim in 20 degree weather. Brisk and refreshing. And it's damn hard to get out of the river when there's ice on those big rocks below the falls. Just sayin! |

| PR, You are Hardcore. I am not even Mountain Biking when it is 20 degree weather and anything that includes getting wet in 20 degree weather is definitely out of the question. |

| Paul, it looks like your schedule isn't slowing down any. I might see you at a couple of those races on your agenda, not sure which ones yet. A couple more to consider would be the Bardstown Adventure Race on September 14th and the Asbury College Adventure Race (date TBD). |
