“Now today the best riders are in Europe,” Absalon said. “France and Switzerland now are the dominant nations, as we see here, as we have both French and Swiss on the podium."

| Didn't Americans start mountain biking? Gary Fisher? I think it was Ned Overend made the comment that he got out cause he knew the euros where getting into the sport and knew the doping would follow. I think he was the one stating that. |

Yeah, I saw him finish 8th at the Teva Games back in June...racing pro with all the young guys! But the guy's old, no getting around it. |

Not to take away from the "glory" but did you guys see the course? It was 15' wide and had very, very few technical sections. The rocks and few logs had to be added after the fact because everyone complained about how easy it was.
It did have tons of climbing but it looked basically like a road race to me. So we have our racers train in the Rockies and Smokies where there are rock shelves, creek cossings, log hops and tons of old growth root systems.
Then these Euro bozo's train on the road and win...
I was disappointed by the coverage as well. I had to watch 2 hours of synchronize butt flossing before the races and then they rapped up it's coverage in 30 minutes. |

| You can watch the entire race on the NBC Olympics site. You might have to lie a bit about your cable provider to get in, but that's a small price to pay for free coverage. |

Please be more clear. How do we see the race. Pretend I'm dense..... which is sorta true.
Thanks! |

On this page: http://www.nbcolympics.com/cycling/resultsandschedules/day=15/index.html The rewind, recap, nbcencore are different versions of the races. I think the nbcencore is the 20 or so minutes they showed on late night, and the others should be the complete races. A new window will pop up with the video viewer, which can be made full screen, and other clips to watch. Be sure to check the women's wrecks - there's a good OTB. |

"The Laoshan mountain bike venue cost almost $10 million to construct. The race will consist of laps of the 4.5-kilometer (2.8-mile) course that climbs 60 meters (200 feet). The exact number of laps will be decided on race day based on the weather, but the intention is that the men's race will last about two hours and the women's 90 minutes.
As a change from the previous Olympics, this year there will be technical assistance zones, where riders can change wheels and other parts, but not get new bikes. They will also be allowed to carry tools with them, which they can share with other members of their team."
10 million dollars to construct???? You know how much singletrack that should have been able to build? Technical assistance zones???? Share tools with team mates??? I thaught mtbing was supposed to be unassisted.....where did these new rules come from? please tell me they didn't get a free lap for a crash/mechanical like in road/crit racing. |

You guys are right, that trail was about as technical as my back yard. Shouldn't mountain biking be more about obstacles, dirt, and speed than endurance? Endurance is Tour de France imo. |
