Yes, there will be a course at Duffield. We'll make it extra painful just for the Zog. I do know that we won't go up the switchbacks like 2 years ago. |

What ever you do, please do not remove any obstacles for the
purpose of the race. It seems every year some log or other obstacle is
removed from Duffield because it interferes with flow, or somebody is worried
they may have to walk it during the race. What ever you do, please do not
remove any obstacles for the purpose of the race, this is already occurring at
Cherokee. The race is only one
day a year, don't ruin the fun for the rest of us for just the one day. Most of our trails are not technical any ways, please leave the
sections that are technical alone. If
you think an obstacle is too dangerous for the race the solution is simple, get
off the bike and walk over it. Warn the
races about before the race starts.

That just it, if you can ride a technical featur and ride it right they don't ruin flow. Just because a section of trail is not fast doesn't mean it doesn't have good flow. I think most of us do not want to be riding on Norba XC courses.

| Chris, being a bit dramatic? I dont think Cherokee is being re-routed just for the race, rather the race is a good reason for them to do some work they had planned on anyway. In fact, the other day Major even said we may not have the frisbee field reroute finished for the race. I dont know what has been desecrated at duffield in the past, but if it involves jumpin off the bike, youre giving duane little CX goosebumps already. |

| Chris does have a point, I think Tech. features are needed, they only ruin flow if you don't have the skills to ride them, if you don't have the skills to ride them maybe you should be racing on the road..... haha ok that was a bit strong but seriously don't you guys get sick of people cutting out roots and stuff because they can't ride them only to have it erode, etc. |

I wasn't referring to the reroute at Dog hill. The trail that is being rerouted there sucks, it stays wet all of the time and is prone to fludding. No I don't think I was being dramatic. I don't think courses should be alter permantly for race day. I'm not the only one that thinks this. |

| what was done at duffield? removing roots is over the top, so is removing every log crossing. I am ok with the removal of dumb log crossings though, the ones that don't require skill to get over and the ones that are rotted out or unstable |

I can't remember any race at Duff where things were removed. Except for hurtle logs, aka must dismount and cx them. I say we run the course right through the DH section. Mandatory gap jumps. If your walk them or dodge them automatic 1 minute penalty added onto your time ;).
At Duane. BRING THE PAIN. Ha. jokes. Anyway you go there is pain, that's why its great.. But really. where will it start, any hints. up the quarry? up the creek? Up the GS (hope not, that would be pain) |

| I heard it's going to be a le mans type start except instead of running to your bike you have to rock climb up the quarry wall to your bike that will be up top |

Again Chris, unless youve been told different, all work at Cherokee is work that was planned race or no race. I dont ride Duff enough to know if things have ever been removed "just for the race" but if thats what you think/know, sorry it happened, I never asked for it to be done. Pat, if there are a bunch of exposed roots, chances are erosion has already happened. I think as usual, people (person) is getting worked up over nothin. |

I think this is stemming from all the talk about removing downed trees at duffield or Waverly (can't remember) last year, there was a lot of talk of flow vs. features. I agree i didn't hear anyone warming up the chainsaw preparing to cut out features for this years race, but I'm sure chris just wanted to make sure you guys in your team kits didn't get out there with a bulldozer and make it 4' wide and flat to allow ample passing room :-) Either way yeah, probably not much to worry about. Also, don't correct me about roots, erosion, trail features, etc. I don't accept constructive criticism well. |

Note to all concerned. Nothing will be changed for the race. And nothing will be done without Bruce Montana's approval. So there. I personally love the technical aspect of Duffield, so don't look for anything to be "softened". Warning signs may be added to warn, but the challenge will still be there. Beyond that, We still haven't ironed out the final course. We've got some ideas, but we'll be out there Fri & Sat for the final setup. This applies to the start as well. If tonybob asks real nicely maybe I'll let the experts start by heading straight up the road to the fort before dropping into the singletrack........ |

That didn't go so well for you then, did it? |
