I went to the CX training with TL last night and had a BLAST. I actually learned a few things believe it or not. Duane and the TL guys do a great job with this. For those who are just getting into this I would strongly recommend this.
The only draw back is: I broke my derailer hanger. I realized Perry is far stronger than I and need a smaller ring. I HATE the cheater brakes. I'll be visiting OYL or Bob today for some upgrades. |

| Bummer I skipped practice last night. I had one more Tuesday Night Worlds left in me. Headed down there tonight for some laps? |

Cool, I'll be there too. After I bent up my first hanger on the CX course...I bought a replacement and an extra one. Now I always have a spare. I think I've messed up two more since last season.
I really should learn how to ride my CX bike. |

Posted By JonnyB on 08/27/2008 9:08 AM What is this training you speak of? On tuesday nights, BikeClicks/Team Louisville holds "Skills & Drills" cyclocross practice at the River Road Country Club at 6:30. We cover most of the basics for CX, like dismounts, mounts, barriers, sandpits, cornering, shouldering your bike, run ups, along with some laps. Our more experienced CX racers coach the new riders in a clinic format.
We usually see about 25 people and it's a good mix of team riders and people who are just interrested in starting CX.
On Wednesday nights, same time same place, there is a training ride with most of the local team riders. Bob Bobrow from Calistoga Racing runs these rides. They are more focused as workouts and are split up into A, B & C groups. |

I recommend dorky glasses to help see through the dust cloud, although a pair of Thomas Dolby "blinded me with science" mid-60s moto-goggles might also work. Check with Marv or myself for sourcing information. I can get the dorky 1998 arnette wrapparounds, Marv can get antique USMC eyewear.
The Tuesday night practice really is incredible. Duane, Marcus and Blaine do a fantastic job. They are very patient with the newbies and offer skills suggestions that even more experienced riders might benefit from. The bike handling skills are usefull off the cross course, too and I would definitely recommend this for anyone who has a friend, spouse or child getting into cycling.
Thanks again guys. |

Britt, you are exactly right: Not ideal, but better than nothing.

| Here is all you need to know about CX training (from my forthcoming book "Louisville Lemmings"); Do whatever Bobrow does or tells you to do. If you are in doubt, see what Curtis is up to. Seems to work well for the majority of the herd in the area. |
