| Welcome decadude, I would recommend Fort Duffield for your freeride/jump fix. But the freeride scene is pretty much played out in Louisville, mostly due to the lack of altitude. For your jump fix you can always hit the skate park in downtown Louisville and if you ask around the locals will clue you in to the many hidden dirt jumps. |

Thanks for the heads up do you guys have a recommendation on which bikes are the best for XC Racing
Also I want to use my first bike for commuting so I will be doing quite a bit of riding on paved roads. Should I change tires for this?
Thanks in advance

Yes on the tires, what kind of bike is your first one going to be? Are you trying to get a "do-it-all" rig (not including DH/jumping)? You may want to just get two wheelsets and swap them out. If you a "commited" I would say just go two bikes. Plenty of good used steeds available (check the classifieds here)

Its always nice to hear there's a new mountain biker especially in your home town. As you know, most people in O'boro ride the road but there are few of us mountain bikers and the numbers seem to be increasing every year. Soon we'll begin having group rides on Wednesday evenings. You can check with the bike shop (QBS 691-9460) for time and location. We can choose between Ben Hawes, Scales Lake in Boonville Indiana, and Grapevine Lake in Madisonville. Unfortunately, for a true freeride experience your going to have to travel. Fort Duffield has already been suggested and there's a couple of guys from O'boro that ride the fort regularly. I've heard that England Idlewild near Cincy has some features, then of course if you don't mind driving 9.5 hours there's Snowshoe WV. That's why most of us ride cross country. (That and I don't like broken bones) As far as a new bike...... try to be patient, do some research and ride for while to determine what you really need. Visit the shop and look around, show up at a group ride and see what everyone else is riding. I've learned a lot from the Kymba site so check back and keep asking question. |
