A college buddy and I biked the Riverwalk today...and a lot farther. We started at the Great Lawn, near Slugger field, and made it all the way down the the LG&E power plant. All together, it was about 34 miles. This may not classify as mountain biking, but I can guarantee that a road bike never would have made it past Shawnee golf course. There was a section where the river had risen and deposited about 5 inches of silt and mud over the concrete path. That crap was sticky as hell. We ended up having to walk our bikes through most of it, then dunked them in the little reflection pond in Shawnee park to wash all the mud off.
If my buddy had brought water, and wasn't dehydrated as hell, we might have gone even farther than we did. How far have you guys gone down that path?

I've ridden it a lot. The last time I was down there was with two other roadies and we did about 50 out and back at a good clip. Once Joe Sohm and I went down on CX bikes and had a blast. The mud definately can be a huge factor as it covers everything is a super slick. |

I've been all the way down to Riverview Park which is the last section of the Levee trail before Farnsley-Moremen Landing. We ran out of time. I have been avoiding that muddy section altogether even though it is pretty neat otherwise. I'll get it all one of these days. |

How'd you get around the muddy section? On the way back, we rode down the tree line of holes 2, 3, and 4 of Shawnee, then dove into the woods and picked the trail back up right at the end of the mud. Besides dodging golf balls, and a few weird looks, it worked alright, but a road would probably work better. How far past the power plant is Riverview Park? My buddy had no water with him, and was dehydrated as hell, so we had to turn around when we did so he didn't die. |

Quite a ways if i remember right to get to Riverview. Anyway, follow the Riverwalk west till you hit the rairoad trestle. This begins the descent into the woods. Instead of going down the hill, keep on west on the road there. I think that is Northwestern if I remember right. It eventually turns into Southwestern Parkway and takes you all the way to Chickasaw Park which you can go around and continue on Southwestern Parkway to continue the "trail." |

I started at Seneca last time. Rode through Seneca, the Cherokee loop, then crossed Lex/Grinstead, and took the Beargrass trail downtown.... If you're an east-ender, it extends the ride, and saves you a little petro... |

we rode the river walk as well today. that muddy section is a lot better now than it was a month ago when we rode it. sucks none the less. it was so bad weeks ago that we turned around at the bridge because there was debris and fallen limbs covering the bridge making it impassable with a kids trailer.
today my wife and i started at the great lawn (parked under the overpasses across from slugger field) and rode... made it to the same pond you guys stopped at. try pullin a 31 pound kid and a 50 pound trailer through that mud! we made it too, lol. put the new cx bike to the mud test and it passed.
is it worth biking past that pond if you're pulling a trailer? i like to stay off major roads while pulling the little one.

| You will have some stretches of road to be honest, but the roads have light traffic and are fairly wide. |

Like Chuck said, they aren't really major roads. You are on Southwestern Pkwy for a while, and Campground Rd. for a long time, but neither of them have much traffic, especially on the weekend. But once you get past the road section, you are back on levees, which is a pretty fun ride.

thanks for the replies guys. i think next time we're out on the river walk we'll forge further past our last stop at the pond.
