How about a December group ride at Cave Run? We had a pretty good turnout last year. (SeenVic, don't forget your helmet!)
Would the 13th or 14th work?
Anybody up for this? |

| I have a graduation to attend at 10:30 at Morehead on the 13th, but could probably ride after that... never been to Cave Run, so that'd be a great "multi-purpose trip!" |

| I can't break away on the 13th as my wife is graduating from nursing school, I'm thinking she would kill me if I missed it, ha. I highly recommend a group from Louisville put together a carpool and make this trip. I just wrote a blog about the Sheltowee/Lakeview/Big Limestone loop on this site, it gives a pretty good description of the ride (bottom line it is fantastic). |

| On another note, sometime early next year (if I can find a good weekend when the trails will be solid) I plan on going up there and having either my family or my brother hang out in an enclosed tent to provide a warm place to stop, food, water, etc. while I do laps, if others were interested I could bring a generator and heaters, etc. and we could put the support stop up at the end of the FS road where the trail starts back at the top of Big Limestone...I have access to a big enclosed tent that would easily hold 30 people. We could then do laps until we puke, run it like an adult bike-a-thon and get sponsors per mile to donate to the Livestrong challenge. After I put some more thought into this one I'll post something up here with a date, etc. Will be a great thing to keep people motivated in the cold winter months. |

I'm currently trying to shoot a 49 mile (+/-) point to point ride for my 49th bday. This will be on a weekend around Jan 21 (bday). I'm thinking from Laurel County to Jackson County, probably ending at Turkeyfoot. If I can get this to work, it will be part of a longer race route for later this year. |

There is a off road trail race (running) that weekend. It's sponsored by Ken Combs, but I do not know the times...
Edit: I found the following on Ken Combs site:
13th 2007 Otter Creek Trail Marathon and 16, 8 Mile Fun Run/Hike starting at 8:30 am Start Finish at Otter Creek Nature Center scenic and runnable 8 mile loop. Todd Heady 502-834-9942
14th is the last day Otter is open which is a Sunday. |

The trail run is actually on the 14th this year. I honestly can't see anyone actually stopping anyone from riding there in the future, I mean who will paying the security if the park is closed? We will just be the only ones maintaining the trails. Everyone ride with a handsaw and we will be good until it opens back up. |

| I say mid-afternoon start, maybe start from the bottom parking lot to avoid the Nature Center traffic.. |

I was up there at T-giving this year. Rode Cap View on T-giving Day. I think I covered most of Cap View - and it is really an awesome place. The last time I was there I think I kept looping up the fall line sections. Not sure how, as there are not that many of those. Cap View is a wonderful urban trail that I love to visit. But the real ride was Saturday. Took my 14 yo nephew, met Gonzo and Boonerider at the visitors center and did the Sheltowee-Lakeview Ridge-Gravel-Big Limestone-Sheltowee loop. Damn, this is some fine riding. As good as I have done anywhere. The last downhill with the 4-6" singletrack on the exposed 50-70% sideslope is simply the nutts. It gets no better. Climbed up into Amburgy Rock again, and explained the history of the place to my nephew. He was stoked on the ride, and the history. It was his first real ride in some "mountains". This area of Kentucky has me considering that it wouldn't be so bad to come back. It is one hour on the nose from house to various trailheads. Great to be with Gonzo and Boonerider again. Look forward to next time. Didn't go to Brown County. Too far to drive with family time and all. |

| Damn Bill, wish I would have known, I rode that loop on Friday, would have totally come back Saturday for another go at it, my mom lives about 30 minutes from the trail head in Fleming County. |

Pat - damn that sucks. I was looking for a Friday ride and ended up watching my 3 kids all day. If I'd had a plan I could have ridden. Couldn't get motivated to ride alone. gnaw- damn that sucks. Would have loved to have met you. I tried to get onto the HMBA forum to hook up with you, but the activation email never came to either email I used. I finally decided that Brown County was too far to travel without any insite into conditions etc.... Next time I will contact both of you prior to making the trip to Ky. |

| Bill I had a great time also. One of my best rides in a while. Man I have told everyone that I ride with how impressed I was with your nephew, he was a great kid and one heck of a rider. It was great seeing you again, anytime you are in this area let me know and we will hook up for a ride. |

haha, c'mon now Chuckles, I haven't become a complete roadie. I've been riding trail way more than road lately. It just took drought conditions to get the trails back in great shape for me to remember my first love. There is really no comparing road riding to mountain biking when the trails are pristine. You need to come down and ride with me ,Gonzo, Billy and Brad O. Where the heck is Fireball and justwright, are they still around? |

Fireball popped up on the radar within the past 3-4 months and then returned to hibernation at the proper seasonal time. Justwright has been MIA for a while. I got something very cool brewing in your area. Stay tuned! |
