Rico Don't feel bad, I know it is hard to believe, but more than one person has given me that $10,000 number as a base line for finished trail construction. It is hard to believe that just goes to show what we are giving back to the parks when we do volunteer trail work. Rico has been a big help out at Waverly when it comes to trail work. |

Could we please get some lights put in somewhere so we can ride faster at night? It's not like they have to put in new poles or anything, just shimmy up a tree an plug it in, dang it. I mean, they do it for little league... Oh, went to Brown County yesterday and it was cool. |

Posted By seenvic on 10/22/2008 4:23 PM I saw those pics of Obannon Woods on the HMBA forum. OMFG - beautiful! That place looks killer. I've said it before O'bannon when it's off the ground will be better than brown county, the elevation, the karst outcroppings (rock features) and the scenery will allow for the some of the most rugged riding in the region.
The Place is not without it challenges, There are horse trails everywhere, tics, logging interests, but the opportunity is unsurpassed.
It is one of the properties the $250,000 grant has as a priority, Bill you could put our stamp on this place..

Alex (Brown County builder) and Todd (one of my partners) worked together in Oregon in 2007 and have stayed in touch since then. Alex and I almost met out in Utah....can't believe we didn't. Anyway, Alex was pitching to Todd to come to Indiana, but he couldn't. I don't when the last communication b/n those guys was. It is a long haul from WNC (where Todd lives) to Indiana, but to build in that type of terrain would be awesome. Did you get a PM from me? I'd love to come up there and meet you, Alex and whomever else is in the loop up there. Oh yeah, those rock outcroppings are stunning at Obannon Woods. |

Yup, now that you've pointed it out, I see the pm, apparently I've won the irish lottery too!!
I'll be around at Thanksgiving, I'd be happy to ride with you. I think we could round up Alex and Alex too..

I just hope the trails are in good condition to ride.
I'll be in touch as it gets closer.
Thanks. |

We have been busy putting the State Grant funding to work at Versailles. 2+ miles of sweet trail is on the ground.
We will be doing a big work session this saturday, Feb 1st, as well as Saturday, Nov 15th. Work sessions are from 9:00 till 1:00ish, and you can join us for all or part of the time.
Bring your bikes too, as there is new trail to ride.
This is part of the State Grant that will also be put to work at O'Bannon.
One of the big challenges for O'Bannon will be for HMBA and KYMBA to learn how to work togather. So this is a chance to come out and see how we build a trails like (or better than) the new Brown County Trails.

Paul, Nov 1st you mean? Wish I was going to be in the vicinity. Those pics of Obannon on HMBA.org are awesome. The rock outcroppings and topography in a hardwood forest are just as good as it gets. I would think with more experience and new ideas, the trails in Obannon would be better than Brown County. And then the next set better than Obannon......this makes sense to me and is a good selling point to gather volunteer help/$$$.
We talked a while at the Park City Epic in line for lunch.
I hope to come to Indiana to ride over T-giving, trail conditions permitting. You gonna be around? I'll be in touch with Glefty as it gets closer. We'd ride whatever you locals recommend. I want to see the work done up there as I hear nothing but great things about it.
