Sorry for the landslide of messages, but if you could all take a couple minutes to fill out this survey, it could potentially help us secure some funding to build new trails at Jefferson Memorial Forest. While I have not seen anything final, I have been told that the new masterplan does recommend a fair amount a mountain bike access in the Forest. Having some cake to build the trails would be huge.
Please take a minute and fill out the forms. More information is below.
http://www.memorialforest.com/savethetrailscompetition.htm
The Louisville Metro Parks Foundation and the Jefferson Memorial Forest have been named finalists in a competition for Save the Trails funding that will be determined by online voting during October. Save the Trails, in cooperation with the National Trails Fund, will award $5,000 trail revitalization grants to the 10 communities that receive the most online votes. Nineteen other communities were selected along with Louisville as finalists out of a competitive pool of 160 non-profit organizations located throughout the nation.
Please join me in helping make sure that the Forest earns enough votes to win!
With the National Trails funding, Metro Parks officials plan to build approximately 2.5 miles of new trails at the Forest. The Forest's trails will ultimately connect to the Louisville Loop, a 100-mile paved path being developed through the Mayor's City of Parks initiative.
Visit www.memorialforest.com/savethetrailscompetition.htm for instructions on how to vote. Once you've voted, you may register to win a prize from the Forest in a random drawing at www.consuminglouisville.com/2008/10/vote-for-jefferson-memorial-fo.php.
Thanks for supporting trail improvements at Jefferson Memorial Forest! Please share this request with your friends... and thanks for letting me into your e-mail inbox with this request! |

From Michelle Jones, Consuming Louisville, www.consuminglouisville.com: Thanks for voting for Jefferson Memorial Forest in the Save the Trails contest. While we won't find out if we won the $5,000 trail grant until Spring 2009, we feel pretty good about our chances… the excitement that this contest generated was overwhelming! We're e-mailing you just this once… if you want to continue receiving news about the nation's largest municipal urban forest, you'll need to opt-in to our mailing list by visiting http://www.metro-parks.org/jmf_newsletter.htm. -- The winners -- Michelle at Consuming Louisville drew two winners, at random, from all the folks who registered for prizes as part of this contest. Alicia Brown received one free group camp site rental at Jefferson Memorial Forest, and Robert Heady received one free public program at Jefferson Memorial Forest. Congratulations! -- Get involved and stay informed! -- Whether you're a regular Forest user who wants to volunteer your time, or a Forest newbie who wants to learn more about what we have to offer, we'd love to keep in touch with you. If you sign up for the Jefferson Memorial Forest e-mail list, we'll drop you a line whenever our quarterly newsletter is posted online, or when an interesting special offer or volunteer opportunity is available. To get on the list, visit http://www.metro-parks.org/jmf_newsletter.htm and enter your e-mail address! It's rare that you'll hear from us more than once a month, and if we start to get on your nerves, it's easy to unsubscribe! -- What's next for the Forest? -- At the same time you were voting to improve Jefferson Memorial Forest's trails, we were wrapping up work on a visionary new master plan for this 6,191-acre natural treasure. This new plan calls for new trails, new camping opportunities, cabins for overnight stays, and much more! You can see maps showing the proposed locations of these facilities online at www.memorialforest.com! _______________________________________ My name was drawn for a public program at JMF. I also signed up to receive their news letters (sign up at http://www.metro-parks.org/jmf_newsletter.htm ). You can keep up on the information provided by our people (fasterdulin and others) and their people. It may take several years, but it sounds like there's an incredible opportunity for kick ass trails. |
