if anyone was on the cherokee trails today around 6 and heard what sounded like a howler monkey - that was me. i went down hard tonight. it knocked the wind out of me so bad all i could do was, well, howl. i couldn't get any air back into my lungs for what seemed like a week. when i finally managed to actually breath i realized that i was hurting pretty badly. fortunately nothing was broken. there might be a cracked rib (hurts to breath and all that) and i'm gonna be SORE AS HELL tomorrow morning. but other than that - i'm alive.
but i do want to say thank you to tim brown, andrew marsh, and of course my wonderful wife (who probably sharted when she saw, and heard, me down) who were all there to make sure all my bits were still intact.
got some good scars for this one. YAY SCARS!

before the bird sanctuary..where you can either go high or low. the high section has a short, but very rooty, downhill. i was going down the rooty section when i took a line i've never taken before. my front wheel did exactly what yours (MEKs) did when you had your bad wreck and i flipped over my bars. it was first wreck i had when my first thought was not "my bike!" actually my first thought was "i can't breath!" |

That's exactly where my best friend went down a month or so ago and shattered his wrist. Two weeks later I saw a kid wrecked in the same spot.
Glad to hear that you didn't break anything.
It's a gnarly section for sure. You can lose your line fast and if you try to carve it you slide out.
Take the hard line on the outside with momentum. |

| ^^^^ That section used to be a mind block for me. If you start at the far right and move across to your left as you go down, you should be fine. |

| That section has been discussed for a reroute due to the erosion and it's non-repairable condition - not to make it easier - but the details haven't been worked out yet. Hope this doesn't cause an uproar or come as a surprise to anyone. |

| I went down last night around 7 last night in cherokee. My left shoulder, chin and chest is scraped and brused badly. My right wrist I can't hardly bend. I was up around Hogan's fountain. |

Not surprised but disappointed. It is a little
technical because it is improperly we built as most technical sections in
Cherokee are. None less it is a fun section to ride. If they reroute that
they should reroute the whole section after that, as it is just a mud pit and
not really a trail. I always thought that trail should be on the other
side of the concrete fence up on the hill, but that may not be park property.

Chris, that is one of the options that has been suggested by Chuck and will be looked at. I was supposed to go out there and ride the section and look at it with Dulin, but with all the work we did on the downhill it hasn't happened yet.
I almost hated to say anything about it because I don't want to lose any technical sections, but from a trail maintenance standpoint it's a train wreck. Maybe we can leave it open for those that want to ride it . But that's just me talking and I don't make those decisions. And there are already two trails thru that area. |

It is funny you mention the two trails. People complain about this section seem to forget there is a less technical trail if you hang to the left. I wrecked a couple of years ago on the technical section (wash out down hill) After I wrecked I took the easier non technical line until I was ready for the washed out section.
It good to mention on here, it may cause an uproar, but it is going to happen my well get people use to the idea.

Imagine this: You turned up hill at the fork and then kept going across that hillside (instead of the rooty downhill) till you hit the road, then you crossed it and followed the contour all the way down to where it would hook up with the current trail at the bird sanctuary entrance (downhill trail that is seldom ridden) or so. It could happen........ |
