looks like the guy that bought the waverly sanitarium is going to turn it into a high-end hotel/spa. will this effect the trails at all?

Doesn't seem to be a good investment. A 78 room hotel, nowhere near an Interstate, no where near anything significant, except Waverly Mt biking of course.
Save your money and keep it a freak show. At least it's fun that way. |

That would be like building a hotel out of Auschwitz. So many people died there and basically tortured due to lack of understanding proper tb treatment.
I think it should be leveled! |

I remember visiting my Grandmother there ........... It was called Woodhaven Medical Services ......... perhaps I should tell my psychiatrist about this episode in my life .
PS: I don't think the lack of medical knowledge could be considered as torture. We did the best we could with what we had to work with

We used to ride our bikes at night through the hallways back in the early 90's. Man you'd hear, feel and see weird stuff while in the building. I find it hard to believe that stuff but some strange things do happen there. |

I wish that I could agree. They had open wings that they would put patients in exposing them to the pollen of the Ohio valley. The would also do this in the winter time and had to remove the snow from beds!
I've also heard of experimental surgery that was performed there where they would deflate the lungs thinking that it would "force" the infection out. I wonder how that feels.
Ribs were also removed to limit lung capacity. There was actually a female survivor of that surgery on one of the documentaries. She wasn't too happy.
I've come away thinking that they had to fill it to capacity to justify the high cost of the building.
I'm no doctor but that sounds barbaric and torturous to me!
LEVEL IT! ;-D |

The put the patients out in the cold because the thinking of the time was that cool, dry air was a remedy for Tuberculosis. Mammoth Cave also had a Tuberculosis ward in one of it chambers for the same reason. My great-Grandfather died in that hospital and was buried in a mass grave on Manslick road right next to the dog pound. Nice eh? If you drive by its just a huge field with about 15 small headstones, but there are actually 12,000+ people buried in there!
One more nugget: There was a graveyard on the grounds of Waverly Hospital that has been lost and no one seems to know where it was located. The new subdivision that was built is probably right on top of it, just like in the move Poltergeist. :D

Tragic. I've never heard about the mass graves or the lost graveyard.
When I was young and into skate boarding we used to go inside there and power slide on the granite floors. This was before they had security or dogs on site.
The first I ever went in it was late at night and we had no flashlights, just lighters that we flicked the flint of for light. I don't know if we were ballsy or just stupid.
I think that I'm showing my age now. ;-D |

| I'm interviewing with the company that designed the main building at Waverly Hills next Tuesday. Coincidentally, it is the same firm that designed Churchill Downs. |

I grew up around and skated the btown road area. We only ventured to waverly and those drain ditches out by Valley high once in awhile. |

I'm interviewing for Electrical Engineer. I meet with Ed Jerdonek this afternoon. I'm hoping this will be the last step before an offer letter. What dept. are you in? |
