I'm hearing that all the multiuse trails in the DBNF will soon be widened. Now they are 50" or so (I think that's right), supposedly sized for atv traffic. The trails will be widened another 10" or so; to accomodate the newer style side-by-side rigs (think Rhino, and RZR) (I'd love to have a RZR). I think Kentucky will follow this on most of the adv tourism stuff too.
Proponents of side-by-sides speak of their ability to allow access into the wilderness by disabled individuals, this may well be a factor in the federal decision to allow them into the DBNF.
The side-by-sides are also heavier, and more powerful than most atv's. If this plan is actually implimented around here, I hope the USFS budget to widen the trails also includes money for things to protect them from the additional damage caused by the rigs. |

Let me clarify; this would only affect places that already have legal ATV access. Like STree, Red Bird Crest, and so on.
On a purely seKY note; I wonder if they will let them back in Cromer Ridge. (!!!) |
