| I'm new to bike riding. My doctor wants me to lose weight and get in shape and bike riding is the only form that I find interesting. I'm 40 years old and I live in Madisonville, Kentucky. Are there any trails in the area to go bike riding safely? |

You may want to start a new thread in the "General Mountain Biking" forum. More people will see it there and may be able to share some information. I'm interested to find out as well; my wifes hometown is Madisonville and I would like to hit the trails while we're visiting inlaws.

| Welcome! If you're thinking classic mountain biking - as in riding on a narrow trail through the woods - look at the Macedonia loop in Pennyrile Forest SRP near Dawson Springs. There's a series of nested loops there ranging from 2-4 miles in length, and the trail is pretty smooth (as of last Fall). I think there's something right by Madisonville too; do a web search for Pennyrile Area Cyclists and get in contact with them. |

Did you ever find what you were looking for?? I am a member of PAC and will be happy to show you what we have around M-ville..
If you are new to the sport I really can not recomend the loops out Pennyrile State forest. they seem to scare new riders by being a bit technical and steep here and there. But if you want something quick and easy Grapevine Trails are just right for someone starting out. If you park in the Grapevine Christain Church parking lot there is a trail head directly across the street. Take that and make a rt on to the main trail (A) in the woods, this will take you all the way to the boat ramp were you have two choices. Head back up the road and out or go across the gravel rd to the start of Trail B. Just don't talk to any of the funny looking dudes parked on the sides of the rd and you'll be fine. Thus the reason for parking at the church. Trail B is a little confusing to new folks because it crosses a rd twice on the back side so if you just continue on and follow the markers you should be fine. It all loops around and Trail B will take you back to the main gate of the park.. PM me if you need more info or would like a tour we have somewhat of a reg ride out there on Wed's after work. You can also log into our web site http://pennyrileareacyclists.com go to the forum and someone will gladly help you out..
Good riding!!! |
