Checkout American Classic's 09 stuff.  Real nice looking MTB wheels.   http://amclassic.com/ac2009/index.html  I have a pair of their 2 niner wheels, good wheelset.

My AC wheels were light, but the freehub (and ergo the hub on these wheels) kept coming loose. When this occurred with the 1st Gen Niner One9 frame (with too tight chainstays) resulted in tire rub against my right chainstay.

My I-9s work much better...

I had a problem with my AC wheels at first. The rear axle broke twice. They stood behind(fixed it) both times. The last time they put a heavier duty axle in the wheel. Since then all's good.

I got these DC rims but they were to heavy.

I used them for frisbies with my dog.

My AC 29er rims a pretty light around 1600 gams. suprisingly durable for their weight.
