Could anyone tell me a little more about the kids race? What it usually consists of- distance-age groups- etc. Also what the course usually includes? My nephew wants to participate, but the way the trails are looking, I am wondering if I will bring him. Don't want him getting impaled by one of the thousands of broken limbs and sticks all over the trails. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. |

| We have not laid out the kids race course yet but can assure you it is not our intent for anyone, young or old, to be impaled at any point during the race. We may put in some swinging logs and jumps over alligator pits though. Next question. |

| I didn't think it was anyone's intent to cause injuries. Sorry to bother you man, sounds like you have had a bad day or something. Does anyone have a non-sarcastic answer ? My nephew is new to the sport and I am trying to keep up his enthusiasm. He's never been in a race, or anything like that. I was just wondering how the races have been in the past. As far as distance and course goes. Mostly trail/some off trail... I now know the kids course hasn't been set yet, but could someone tell me a little about previous kids races? In a serious fashion? I have no other soruce to gather information on the topic, other wise i wouldn't bother you with it. Thanks. |

Homegrown, don't take any offense. Tonybob is an equal opportunity distributor of sarcasm. He wouldn't single you out over anyone else. I think he means that the course will be swept of likely injury producing items. So, bring your nephew. He's probably more durable than you! |

The kids race we did at the Waverly race was a short track in an open field, that way all the parents and family and friends could cheer them on, it was laid back and a lot of fun seeing the little ones going for it. Hope that helps. |

| the age of the kid matters. How old is your nephew? If he is real young he won't be on trails at all if he is over 12 or 13 it might be a different story. Tonybob threw in the last sentence to be funny, not to be mean. Who doesn't love a good alligator pit joke? |

| He is 9 years old. And his friend is 10 who also wants to come. I do appreciate a good joke now and then, I didn't take offense. I was only asking a question. |

| that's a tricky age, would you be okay with them doing a 4 mile lap out there? At the waverly race there was a 9 year old girl who did a full lap. I think there is generally a parent to ride along with kids in that age range, not saying that will happen at Otter but it is likely. |

| Well, to be fair, I thought the fact that you would infer we would run a race, kids or otherwise, that was unneccesarily hazardous was pretty stupid and deserved a bit of sarcasm. And the first part of the reply was 100% serious. |

| Tonybob: Not sure if you are supposed to be representing KYMBA but if so you are not putting forth a good image. If you would read my initial post again, you would see that I did not state, imply, etc. that the KYMBA would intentionally put on a race involving dangerous surroundings for children. I was simply stating that I was at otter recently and the storm left tons of debris, and sharp objects. I was asking if the kids race was going to be on trails or not, and what the distances usually are. You saying my question was stupid, makes you sound quite stupid. There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers, as you have proved today. Your childish sarcasm was not asked for or needed in this thred. If you don't have anything productive, or informative to add, why not just skip this thred and not add your sarcastic .02? Myself and three friends intended on racing in the sport class. That is $120 we would be paying to the KYMBA, just to be involved. We will loose, but we are only in it for the fun. The same reason I am trying to bring my nephew and his friend, so they will have fun, and hopefully continue for years to come in this sport. To the others who responded, thanks, you were quite helpful. Tony, if you would like to talk at the race, I sure would like to meet you. I drive a green jeep, and have a large USMC (unites states marine corp) tattoo on my right arm. Be sure to come up and say hello. |

| KYMBA is not hosting the race, the Clarksville Ateam is (myself and a few other good folks), thus my need/desire to chime in. Sorry you took offense. See ya there. |

| OK Kids settle down. There will be a kids race If ya want your kid to run the full loop it's best if you ride with them. If you want your lil guys to run the "kids race" it will involve mostly a grass field course with a lil bit if dirt in the woods to keep em smilin. Depending on the size of the group age classes and distances will be decided race day. I usually try to keep the young kids race last no more than 15 minutes. the full loop is about 4.5 miles long. I have extra medals that should allow all the kids to make the podium. It's gonna be thweeeet. |

hey homegrown, kinda late in the reply, but judging from your question, should run your kiddo with the kids race and the fellas running it will probably give the older kids a second lap. That is how we have added the little older kids to start them out. sorry the taste in your mouth of this MTB forum is poo but perhaps your experiences with others will change that, hope you and the kids made it out yesterday, sure had a blast!! Hat is off to everyone that participated as well as volunteered in front and behind the scenes. |
