ok guys come out and race a real race course. July 27th and 28th is the date for this years Racer Rampage. This race benefits one of Murray State's Cycling team. This will be probably one of the most challenging mtb races in ky. Don't have to worry about other park users (as much), thumb tacs or any of the road riding stuff. Come one over/down/up and enjoy a weekend long race. After racing is done go down to the beach and cool down with a nice relaxing swim in lake barkley. Camp Grounds are on site at Lake Barkley State Park. Closet city/eatery is probably Cadiz, KY (outside of the local lodge of course). Nick- I am curious about the trails conditions at LBSRP. I rode there a while ago, and the early spring floods and storms in the area had done a lot of damage to the trails. There must have been some epic work days to get the trails back in a raceable condition. The 27th/28th is also the same weekend as the Off Road Assault on Mt. Mitchell. There are several people from Lexington heading down to NC for this race.

I would like to restate that the Cherokee race is not the same route as last year's fiasco. the only time you will be on pavement is to cross a road. Also there is absolutely no connection to the promoter from last year. the course will have marshals at each trail head informing other users of the race in progress. It's too bad that the races fell on the same day. I tried to contact you guys at Barkley all through the fall but I guess my contact was out of date. Anyhoo.... I hope you guys have a good race, but lets not start undermining each others event. peace.

Brad here is what i was told by James "Please help spread the word and tell everyone the trail is rideable and in decent shape right now. Thanks James Combs" I know those guys have had a couple weekends of scheduled trail work. The murray guys usually spend a weekend or two where they camp out and spend loads of time on their trails to get them back in shape before the race. I haven't personally been there since last year sometime. Rusty sorry for the cheap shot man. I was just trying to give these guys that talk about norba races being to easy another alternative (making cherokee to easy for the race). I didn't know about the assualt on mt michell race being the same weekend as well. Its great we have all these races going on! Now its just time to make a choice where to go. Cherokee and lake barkley are both about 2 hrs away from the owensboro group. Oh and it was probably my fault you had an out of date contact for the Race info in the fall. I gave you jeff vinyards email address but only james combs name. James's email wasn't posted anywhere yet, but now that it is on the flyer for next years race its James.combs@murraystate.edu. I believe jeff has graduated and moved on to grad school so he probably doesn't have as much of a role in the race team this year.

It's all good. Hopefully we can get Lake Barkley on the schedule for next year. Keep me posted on who to contact or have them contact the site so we can get Barkley back in the series next year.

Get it lined up as a KYMBA race for '09 and I'll make it my personal mission to rally some Cincy folks to make the trip down to Barkley. It's a 5 hour trip, but that place rocks!

wow.....every year i keep bringing myself back to this place. every year it just beats me down. hardest race of the year (for me).....hardest trail in ky (for most). if you like to push your xc limits, you missed one of the most challenging races in ky this year for sure. hopefully the murray guys can get this lined out next year with the kymba series to rake in a few more of you guys/gals for some punishment. results usually get posted on www.woodnwave.com but not sure for this year yet. Jeff Viniard is a bread making machine. Had to be 20-30 loaves of homeade bread baked for racers/awards/primes/volunteers or what ever else he wanted to give em for. We tried to talk him into making some for the 12 hours of canal (in land between the lakes in the fall) and sale them out of the back of his truck during the race. Thanks to James, Jeff, and all the other murray state racers/friends for putting on this great event every year.

I cant tell if your promoting this or not.......... cause your kinda scaring me away. lol I was planning on racing both events. It was a tough choice. Hopefully, next year there wont be any scheduling conflicts.
