| Riding Cherokee this morning, it sounded like there was a lot of heavy machinery above Montana's Pass. I skipped it going east toward Seneca and figured it was some tree work or construction at the Seminary. On the way back, about 1/3 of the way into the trail there were some trees down. No big deal. Lookin through the trees though, a giant hunk of cliff looks like it has come down mid trail. I road around up top to see two huge excavators. I looks like they got too close to the edge and part of the Park is broken. Is that trail park property? Can they do that and not get fined? Thanks God nobody was there when the rock came down.
Also wanted to say somethin before before Chris or BC post, it wasnt the racers or KYMBA ruined the trail. |

Awesome! The funny thing is, the cliff is the seminary property, but the trail is on park property. I suppose back in 1897, the surveyors didn't like the idea of climbing the cliff. What's even cooler - there is a whole cave system behind that cliff band and the entrance was sealed up in the 40s or 50s. I'm surprised they didn't collapse the cave with all that equipment.
Maybe we can use the rock pile as the technical line and rebuild the main part of the trail a bit lower. I'll call Hans Rey. |

I rode this morning...and didn't see anything out of sorts Tony. I was either dazed and confused, or missed the trail you're referring to. What I did notice is some re-routing that appears to be going on at the bottom of the Maple Ln. trail..where there's always muddy slop-holes...there were three guys working back in there on what appeared to be new trails. They were erecting some of that black anti-erosion barrier stuff. I rode at about 9:30 'til about 11ish... |

| Montana's pass goes from Alta-Vista to the 3-way intersection leading to Seminary trail. I was out from 830-10 and it sounded like all hell was breakin loose up there. These were the great big ol buckets and when I rode up there, it looked like they were right at the edge of the cliff. Maybe I am mistaken, the downed trees distorted my perception, but pretty darn sure a huge hunk of cliff is now trailside, or trailtop. |

They sure are going through alot of trouble to turn Cherokee into a Norba course. That trail isn't even part of the race course.
It sucks either way. Mike looks like it may time to implement the 5 year plan. :)

I guess I must have been on auto-pilot because all of the sudden I came to a fork and it took me a half-second to process what was going on. It was kind of like when you're driving down a familiar expressway and suddenly realize where you are.

| I think that must be the Olmsted Conservancy or UofL folks. They had talked about moving one of those trails a bit to make room for a little research and restoration project in that swamp area that's adjacent to the trail. I guess they waited for it to get real hot before digging. |

That's why I couldn't think of it... To gnarly for me...rode it once....ONCE! too skeery...

| I rode there yesterday. Came up on the downed tree/rockslide about mid trail of Montana. I said F it I'm blazing through the branches. Once inside the matrix of tree limbs and rock I realized I was standing beneath a potential landslide of boulders and tree limbs. you can't kill Montana. |

| And I thought it was bad when they just put limbs and debris at Seminary trailhead... |

The first thing I thought was a car ran off the cliff, it is a mess. Rusty, that's funny you plowed it, as I was making my way through it myself I was thinking "anybody else would have just turned around", guess not. I'll be up for repairing that section, it is one of my favorites as it keeps it interesting.

Road this for the first time since this post. It was completely clear. Looks like we can have the race after all!
