Has anyone been to the new Bike shop in Louisville? It is in Westport Village at Herr Lane and Westport Road.

Is it really a bike shop (bikes and service) or a, sort of, Quest meets Bicycle Sport?
I knew there was an "outdoor" store that just got going in that new plaza. I didn't know if they sold bikes though. |

I think there is a "The Trail Store" which you may be referring to Chuck. There is also a new bikeshop called "Mountain Bike Depot" in the same shopping center. According to the CJ, there is also a Maps Unlimited store and a Trailside Cafe featuring smoothies, organic coffee and trail mix. CJ also sayd the bike shop carries bikes you cant get anywhere in KY. Intense,Rock Mountain, Ibis, Van Dessel and Scott. All of this in one shopping center. Sounds like a hot spot for outdoor types to me... |

| I went there. It is different in that it is dedicated to "dirt-only" bikes. MTB, CX, nothing roadie. The couple that owns the "Trail/Map/Cafe" also owns this. The manager used to own his own shop in Corydon but has a long history of bicycle work in the Louisville area. I am sure you more connected types would know him. I don't think they have all of their inventory in yet as it seemed like everything on the floor was Rocky Mountain. The do have some Intense stuff "on the walls" and a few Van Dessels. They said they plan to do it all (i.e., wheelbuilding). |

| I saw in the C-J that they were going carry Intense,Rock Mountain, Ibis, Van Dessel and Scott bikes. Also, that nobody else was in the area had these bikes. I guess thats a good thing. |

They are open now so you can go check it out. I am just getting into it so I went there and talked to the guy working there yesterday. He said they are still waiting for more bikes and in the next couple weeks or so they will be getting Scott bikes in.

Sounds like a cool shop- I'll have to check it out.
I do want to reprove Steve and add a plug - You can find some of those bikes elsewhere in Kentucky - at Reser Bicycle Outfitters we carry Scott, Rocky Mountain, BMC, Transition and Yeti, in stock.

I was just quoting the CJ who apparently quoted the store owner saying so... No harm, no foul here...

It is true the C-J did say they were bikes you can't get in Kentucky. Hope the folks in Northern Kentucky were not offended. Never been to Reser Bicycle Outfitters, I will stop in the next time I’m up that way. Did stop by the Mtn. Bike Depot and they have a nice store. The whole complex is pretty nice. I think that the site was an old Winn-Dixie. The only thing left is from a few years ago is the kid’s casino also known as Gattiland. CHUCK: I think it is Tom Marlett who is the manager of the shop. |

| I havent been in there yet, but I heard a while back Tommy was on the short list as potential managers, so I would bet thats him. Sucks if he had to give up Old Capitol. |

| It is in fact Tom from Old Capital. Tom Marlett to be exact and yes he did give up the Old Capital Bike shop. Yeah the courier journal may have slipped on the article but I don't think it was any fault of the shop. Nice place that seems to cater mostly to the all mountain free-ride end of the sport. Check it out. |

Tom did not seem too unhappy about giving up OC (liquidation). He said his wife works @ U of L so her commute was bad, and his market in Corydon was mostly cruisers, etc. (and it didn't sound like he ever made any money there). Good guy that seemed VERY happy that he could start riding again instead of worrying about making a living. He said he picked up 70 lbs. since opening the OC shop.

I swung by there on one of those snowy days we had last month. It hadn't opened yet, but I took a peek through the window and thought it looked pretty cool.
The map place also has some pretty cool topographical maps.

| I checked it out this past weekend. Cool place and nice people. The bike shop has the Kenda Nevegals in stock for 39.99 each, which I think is a good deal. Those are expensive tires. |
