This sounds like a pretty good idea...
I just got this in my inbox from DirtRagMag: ______________________________________________ Hey there rhdy !
We want to let you know that we felt that the Politics Forum on the Dirt Rag message board was bringing everyone down. So we did away with that, and added a Forum dedicated to....BEER! We figure beer makes people more happy than politics does. We hope you find that the Dirt Rag Forums will now be a more friendly place as a result.
Here's the notice we just posted:
"Keep Your Politics Out Of My Music"
Such was the slogan on a sticker back in the early 1990's from the pop-punk band, All. I want to make a new sticker that says something along the lines of: "Keep Your Politics Out Of My Bike Ride!" Or better yet: "Let's Have Beer After Our Bike Ride!"
Who needs a beer?
After much internal deliberation, we've decided that everyone...in the Dirt Rag office and in the Forums...needs a beer. The nature of the Politics Forum has become detrimental to the overall good vibe of the Dirt Rag Forums, so we've decided to take it down and replace it with something more relaxing. Something that more people have in common. Something we can actually (nicely) share with each other.
Beer!
That's right. It's time for everyone to take a break and have a beer. After all, beer goes much better with post-bike ride hanging-out than political discussions. Politics can be a very divisive topic, and we all truly know that bicycles are just the opposite. Bicycles are what unite us! And, well, beer unites us too!
Out with the Politics Forum flame wars, and in with the sharing of good beer recommendations, fine homebrew recipes, and good stories and ideas brought about in a way in which only beer can. "Beer can." Get it?
Ok thanks! __________________________________________________ |

Old faithful...Guinness. For the sweet tooth...a Black Velvet (like a black & tan, but w/Guinness and a hard cider). PBR me ASAP...but only when camping. We use to get 30-packs of Drummond Brothers Rhinelander in college for $5.99. We'd also hit the local bar for penny draft Monday's - ever Monday. That was definitely quantity and not quality. We’d take a dollar and get 50 – 6oz cups each and tip $0.50…from there on the night was a blur. We then had nickel Wednesdays, quarter Thursdays, and dollar pitchers of Icehouse on Friday and Saturday (with a limited number of pitchers…first come first serve) |

another good one for a sweet tooth is the Honey Rasberry Ale. I can't remember who makes it but there is a black lab on the front of the bottle |

I'm on a Pale Ale kick right now, Sierra Nevada is a favorite and it's usually not hard to find. I think Matt's Red might be my fav at Cumberland. They have a Flat Tire Brew over at Richo's now that ain't too shabby, but I prefer the Hoptimus overall. I just tried Magic Hat #9, a little too fruity for my taste. |

When it comes to politics it is pointless to argue because no one is ever right, no matter what party or person you support. The political discussions almost always seem to get out of hand no matter what type of forum you are on. The beer topic is a good one. ABEn, It is no longer Matt's Red. Matt is gone from Cumberland. The red he brewed was one my favorite beers. I don't think the red is as good as it was when Matt was brewing it. The red now has an after taste similar to the stout as do a lot of Cumberland's beers. I still like Cumberland's beers it just has become harder to differentiate from one another. After riding we often head over to Cumberland for beers and a bit to eat. There food is pretty good as well as the beer. I use to not like Beer believe it or not. In college I drink hard liquor. A few years back before I started mountain biking I was introduced to Fat Tire while on a business trip in Houston. I loved it. Fat Tire is hands down my fav! I would say a close 2nd is Sierra Nevada Wheat beer which is always available at Kroger. I like BBC and Brownings beer as well. I like the bbc Alte beer and their Nut brown. |

I really like the BBC beer; the pale ale is my favorite. I agree with the Sam Adams Oktoberfest, great beer. BJ's at Oxmoor Mall has a decent Pale Ale. Just had some Sierra Nevanda pale ale last night. Also like the Leinenkugel summer wheat.
By the way Chris, Brownings went out of buisness. |

I think they just closed their restaurant. I was under
the impression they were going to continue to brew and distribute their beer.

If you like nut brown type beers, Newcastle is one of my other favorite beers. I should have added that above |

even freaking thortons will carry newcastle and sierra nevada, come on guys, snob it up a bit. You need to think of the most obscure beers ever and argue that they're the best beer you've ever tasted, then no one can refute you cause they won't be able to get it. Like my favorite beer is the Czech version of budwiser, but you have to drink it in Prague at a certain bar that has it on tap. Otherwise, its crap. I also like Bruce Montana's fall of 2006 ale. |
