Im going to try my hand at youngers creek on sunday. (im just doing the xc since i have to work sat.)  Its my first race and i dont know what to expect. any suggestions or tips would be great.  BTW i rode the trails today, the new additions were great, and the trails seemed in good condition.

I suggest get their early to ease pre race jitters. Then just go out and have fun.

Ride at your own fastest pace. Don't blow yourself up early on trying to hold someones wheel that going faster than you can maintain. Concentrate on riding smooth, try to carry a little more speed through the corners and over roots than your used to. I focus on staying efficient throughtout my race and try and finish strong.

Hammer down as hard as you can and never look back. Just kidding.
Good advise above. Listen to your body, race within yourself and don't worry about the others.
Its just a hobby so keep it on two wheels, don't get hurt and enjoy!

not sure on the year but purvis had long hair, I know that much.
He ended up winning because of those quadriceps you see right there.
