Cherokee/Seneca Trail Crews this weekend

Two different trail crews will be working this weekend. I believe Ray Smith will be heading up one on Friday to work on the Golf Course section. I hope he will check this forum soon and confirm time and place to meet for all that are interested. I had intended to continue my way back the Wilderness Loop on Sunday morning. However, I have been asked to put some time and energy into much needed maintenance at the bottom of the KyMBA Downhill which is also called Beech Tree Hill. If you know where the large fallen beech tree is, we will just be downhill of this where the trail flattens out. The intent of this trail crew will be to drain all the little ponds, deberming, etc. There may be a bit of trimming to do uphill, but not much. No re-routing will occur this go around. Course, this is all pending the weather. However, a light rain will not likely stop things and may make it easier to do. Please park at the archery field. Bring gloves and some water. I think I have some tools lined up from Olmsted, but bring any you might have. I will be there bright and early, perhaps by 7 a.m. Sunday morning and will work till lunch time. Come when you can if only for an hour or two. Any help is good help. Please post if you plan to attend. I will be very OK with giving my cell phone number out if you PM me. |

I'm meeting up with a few people on Friday at 9:00am to trim overgrowth, I'll post an exact location later today. I also plan to work until 12:00pm Like Chuck, if you are interested in helping out or have questions, send me a private message on here and I'll get you my cell number. Also, as Chuck mentioned above, we will not be doing any reroutes. |

We are starting at the gravel lot across the road from frisbee field. I'll try to check the site before I leave in the morning for messages. We'll be starting counter clockwise down the trail. Try this link for the location: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sou...8&t=h&z=18 |

Posted By Ray Smith on 03 Jul 2009 02:19 PM Thanks to Mary, Aaron, and Terry for joinin in some overgrowth trimming this morning. Mostly cleared from dog run to Hogan's fountain. Thanks guys! I have enough trail tools for a small army. Bring H20 and gloves if that is all you have. Will have some alternate trimming spots if you don't like handling a shovel, etc. As long as it's not pouring down, the trail crew Sunday morning will be a go. |

I know of at least one person who plans on working early in the morning and then going for a road ride. I personally can't do that, but I thought it was a good idea as the roads will likely be dry by then. |

Jim Meyers, Marvin Kersting and Chris Ward all chipped in to help out with trail maintenance today. I am guessing the few others who indicated they would show saw the rain and thought it would be canceled. Basically, we started what most people associate as the exit of the KyMBA Downhill or Beech Tree Hill trail and worked our way back. Deberming, creating areas for runoff and redoing the gullied areas before the exit were the main foci. I think we got a lot done today considering. We closed two of the worst sections of trail in that patch of woods. I hope people will stay off the trail long enough for it to dry and harden. I believe the next trail crew will be next Saturday on the same hillside and led by Olmsted. |
